1. Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to work in Memory Care?
My grandparents inspired me to join the medical field, as I was taking care of them as they declined in health. I went to school and graduated from nursing school in 2005.
2. What do you love most about working with residents in Memory Care?
I love learning about all the residents’ history and back stories. Helping residents with dementia has always been a passion of mine.
3. Can you share a favorite memory or moment you’ve had with a resident that stands out to you?
I have a few residents that are very quiet and timid. However, when I do activities or sit down with them one-on-one, they smile and open up to me. I really appreciate that.
4. What are some of the ways your team supports families of residents living with dementia?
My staff always communicates closely with families and keeps them updated in any situation. Communication is key.
5. How do you keep your team motivated and inspired in such a meaningful — but often challenging — line of work?
I have a great team! I show my appreciation for them by helping them whenever it is needed.
6. What types of activities or programs do residents enjoy most in the Memory Care neighborhood?
Outdoor activities are always great with residents. They get to enjoy the sun and fresh air, while staying active at the same time. Residents also love pet therapy. Many residents have had pets that they’re no longer able to take care of. Pet therapy is very important to them.
7. What makes the Memory Care program at Newport Mesa Senior Living unique compared to others in the area?
Newport Mesa Senior living is an amazing building. It’s small, but structured. It’s a great place to call home.
